Dr Earl Renfroe, at the University of Illinois at Chicago, throughout his career in dentistry showed us the way with unselfish modesty. The profession is better for having him, and orthodontics is better for his efforts.

His books and articles offered stimulating information and promoted advancements in the specialty. And with his courage, intellect, and perseverance, he transcended and transformed the discriminatory conditions he faced as a dental student.
