Dr. Heller is a supporting character in the 2018 sci-fi/thriller film, The Meg. He is the chief medic of Mana One. In the past, he was a teammate of Jonas Taylor on an underwater rescue mission and called him a coward for abandoning two of the rescuers.
He was portrayed by Robert Taylor.
Heller appears in the opening scene after Jonas returns an injured military from a damaged submarine. But when an unknown creature begins to hit their submarine, Jonas is forced to leave his two mates and rise to the surface. Shocked, Heller tries to open the airlock but Jonas stops him saying that if they stay there they will all die. After this incident, Heller diagnosed Jonas with induced psychosis and called him a coward and crazy.
Five years later, Heller now works as the chief medical officer for the Mana One ocean station, run by Dr. Zhang and funded by Jack Morris. He helps oversee the exploration mission which goes awry when a creature attacks the Origin and blocks the passengers in the water. In a meeting, the scientists discuss all the possible solutions, and Mac offers to hire Jonas for the rescue mission. Heller refuses, saying the last time he went on a mission he abandoned two of his men. Mac retorts that he saved his life but the two are stopped by Zhang who decides to go to Thailand to find Jonas.
Arriving at the station, Dr. Zhang asks Mac that Heller find him and Jonas in the infirmary. This infuriates Jonas who tells Heller that he is healthy like the last time he examined him. As Jonas wants to leave, Heller says he hasn't finished osculating him and Jonas replies that being in international waters he can hit him without risking anything. Heller then supervises the rescue mission with the others, but his advice for Jonas is ignored by the latter during his descent into the ocean. When Suyin meets the Meg, Heller is shocked and Jonas sarcastically replies that it feels good not to be crazy.
Later, the doctor takes care of moving Lori, injured, to the infirmary to treat her. When Jonas comes to see her, Heller apologizes for not believing him and that he was wrong. Jonas asks him to save Lori so that they will be quits. Later, when everyone learns that the Meg has risen to the surface, Heller is part of the team that goes to the scene of the attack. He decides to put the whole bottle of etorphine in the harpoon to be able to kill the giant shark. When Jonas has to run away from the beast when he wanted to shoot him, he got back on the boat and Heller tells him that he may be a son of a bitch but not a coward and everyone laughs and congratulates him. But after thinking of killing the Meg, another larger shark bursts out of the water and devours the corpse while overturning the ship. While Jaxx and Heller are in the water, the Meg begins to swim towards them. Heller tells Jaxx that he's a good person and sacrifices himself by fidgeting to attract the shark that devours him.
