Jun 17, 2021 · Having rejoined the British Heart Foundation as Chief Executive in February of last year, Dr Charmaine Griffiths faced the hugely challenging task of leading the charitable organisation through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Unusually for a CEO, Dr Charmaine Griffiths began her career as a scientist. She left the lab to join the British Heart Foundation in 2003, where she held a series of roles in public affairs, tech and operations before joining the board in 2015.
Dr Griffiths has a particular interest in haemochromatosis and co-wrote the latest national guidelines. He also leads a UK special interest group on Wilson’s disease, served 10 years on the British Association Study of Liver (BASL) committee and is the National Lead for Hepatology training.
Martin Griffiths is the lead trauma surgeon at the Royal London Hospital - one of the busiest trauma units in the UK, currently dealing with the impact of unprecedented levels of knife and gun crime.
