If I'm basing my opinion on entirely on S1, David is a overbearing, brutish idiot, and yet I ultimately have empathy for him. Like many characters in season one, he initially comes off as one dimensional and cliche (Even Chloe to some extent if I'm honest), but over the course of the story his humanity emerges.
