KEARNEY COUNTY. B. H. Bracken and I. M. Thomson. When the territory that now comprises Kearney County was first explored it was inhabited by the Pawnee Indians, and the United States government received title to the land by treaty and deed, signed by the Indian chiefs.
Kearney County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 6,688. [1] . Its county seat is Minden. [2] . The county was formed in 1860. It was named for Fort Kearny, which in turn was named for Brigade General Stephen W. Kearny.
Mar 29, 2024 · Touro was named for a prominent American Jewish leader named Judah Touro. Mr. Touro lived in New Orleans and had given his fortune to Jewish schools, hospitals, synagogues, and orphanages. The colonists came in the midst of a land rush to Kearny County which had started in late 1885.

Census Records
Kansas became a territory in 1854 and the first territory census taken was in 1855. It was also enumerated as Kansas Territory in the 1860 Federal Census, although there were 15 counties that were marked with "no population" in them.
