    Hugh Beringar was a secondary protagonist from The Cadfael Chronicles series of novels and television series based on the novels.

    After King Stephen retook Shrewsbury Castle Beringar swore fealty to Stephen. Stephen was skeptical at first since Beringar had been betrothed to Godith Adeney, daughter of the rebel leader Fulke Adeney. Stephen asked him to bring the daughter to him. Beringar helped the young woman escape into Wales, and claimed to the King that despite his best efforts she escaped. After defeating Adam Courcelle in trial by combat for murdering Giles Siward Beringar was named deputy sheriff of Shropshire. During this time Beringar met the Benedictine monk Cadfael and soon the two men were friends.
