Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed by Frank Gehry. On October 23, 2003, The Music Center opened the Frank-Gehry -designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, expanding the campus to 11 acres (45,000 m 2). The 2,265-seat Concert Hall is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
Nov 5, 2024 · The original Music Center, a $33.5 million, three-theatre complex, was dedicated as “A Living Memorial to Peace,” on December 6, 1964. Its principal building was named the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Yet, realization of The Music Center was not the end of Mrs. Chandler’s involvement.
Beginning in 1955 and continuing for nearly a decade, Dorothy Chandler managed one of the most successful arts fundraising campaigns in history in support of the Music Center project. Composer Johnny Green called her “the greatest fundraiser since Al Capone.”
The campus was designed by the foremost architects, including Welton Beckett for The Music Center’s first three theatres and the original plaza; Frank Gehry for The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall; and Rios for the renovation of Mark Taper Forum, Gloria Molina Grand Park and the plaza.
