Heveningham Hall was built in 1778 for the Vanneck family at the climax of Georgian elegance. Joshua (later Sir Joshua) Vanneck was born in the Netherlands to Cornelius Van Neck and became a successful London merchant. Sir Joshua purchased Heveningham, but his oldest son Sir Gerard commissioned the current building.
