Chippendales was founded by India-born Somen "Steve" Banerjee and Los Angeles lawyer, Bruce Nahin. [3][4][5] In 1975, [4] Banerjee bought a failing West Los Angeles bar named Destiny II. [4] In 1979, Banerjee and Nahin renamed the bar "Chippendales" and began hosting exotic dance nights for women, [4] which became a major hit.
