- Eren Jaeger. Eren is the main protagonist of the story and the half-titan hope of humanity. He was completely unaware of his powers until they were awakened during his squad's first mission.
- Annie Leonheart - The Female Titan. Another graduate of the 104th training squad (Eren's squad), Annie is one of the more exceptional fighters in their group.
- Bertolt Hoover - The Colossal Titan. Bertolt is a quiet and reserved person who seems to always stick by his childhood friend Reiner. He is a graduate of the same squad as Eren and was also formerly a member of the Survey Corps before his true identity as the colossal titan was revealed.
- Reiner Braun - The Armored Titan. Another graduate of the same squad as Eren and former member of the Survey corps, Reiner was often looked up to as the big brother of the squad.
- Transformation. In order to transform into one of the Nine Titans, a human with the power of the Titans had to suffer an injury that drew blood (often self-inflicted) while thinking about a defined goal or objective at the moment of injury.
- Regeneration. Those with the power of the Titans could regenerate their bodies, as long as they had the will to live. They were even able to grow back their entire head in the event of a partial or complete decapitation.
- Memory Inheritance. Due to the Paths, those who inherited the Nine Titans were able to see the memories of previous inheritors to some extent. Armin Arlert said that touching objects or people could help trigger these memories.
- Hardening. While it has not been performed by every Titan that has been shown, it is noted in the series that all Titans can harden with enough practice and training.
