Jun 28, 2019 · Writers Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt met in college at Columbia University, where they collaborated on a variety of projects. After graduation, they attended the Broadway Music, Inc. Musical Theatre Workshop in 1998 where they had to write a final project. Yorkey and Kitt knew they wanted to do something nontraditional and out-of-the-box.
Brian Yorkey received the 2009 Tony Award for Best Score for his work on Next to Normal and was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical. Theatre credits include Making Tracks, which has played Off-Broadway and regionally; the musical adaptation of Ang Lee’s The Wedding Banquet; and the new country musical Play It By Heart.
