We are a regulator of health and care professions in the UK. Our role is to protect the public. By law, people must be registered with us to work in the UK.
We make sure that the public is protected when choosing and using health and care services by independently assessing organisations who register practitioners, who are not regulated by law, working both within and outside the NHS.
Many awarding bodies (over 160) in the UK are recognised by Ofqual (for England), CCEA (for Northern Ireland), Welsh Government (for Wales) and/or SQA (for Scotland). In England and Northern Ireland recognised awarding bodies must meet the ‘Conditions of Recognition’.
