While you're there, you can take this off-the-beaten-path adventure to explore the youngest marsh preserve in Ohio. 8. North Bass Island. Last but not least on our list of fascinating Ohio islands is North Bass Island.
- Kelleys Mansion. One of the most popular things to do on Kelleys Island is see the beautiful old homes that you’ll find all around the island. The Kelley brothers purchased the island in the early 1800s, and by 1867, the Kelleys Mansion was their family home.
- Inscription Rock. Across from Kelleys Mansion, you’ll see a covered platform, featuring one of the oldest historical landmarks on the island. This is Inscription Rock, and it’s an essential stop for any Kelleys Island day trip.
- Explore the North Pond State Nature Preserve. Located on the northern side of the island, is North Pond State Nature Preserve, a 51-acre wetland preserve.
- Visit the Glacial Grooves Ecological Preserve. Now for one of the most fascinating stops on your Kelleys Island day trip and one of my favorite things to do on Kelleys Island when I came here as a kid at camp!
- Cuyahoga Valley National Park, OH. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and head out to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Situated on the banks of the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, just a 30-minute drive from the city, the park is a perfect spot to have some fun in the sun.
- Millersburg, OH. Discover the beauty of Ohio’s Amish Country with a short 1.5-hour drive from Cleveland to the bucolic town of Millersburg. Set about halfway between Cleveland and Columbus, the town is the seat of Holmes County, famous for having one of the largest Amish populations in the world.
