[ 2 ] The story is a heavily fictionalised version of the 1963 Great Train Robbery. The film was produced by Stanley Baker and Michael Deeley, for Baker's company Oakhurst Productions.

Leaving the dog with Kate, the Policeman makes his way from the house. Looking across the garden and driveway of 7 Queensmere Road. Steve Cook adds that this was Sir Stanley Baker's house at the time of filming which was sold to the GLC in 1969. The site was redeveloped and properties on Thursley Gardens now occupy the site.
The train robbery scenes were filmed at Theddingworth on the Rugby - Market Harborough - Peterborough line. This route had been closed in June 1966 and the tops of the rails were already rusty, so the film crew had to clean and polish them using mops and brushes at the start of filming to make it look as if the rails were still in use.
