If Vila do Conde has a main beach then it would be Praia Azul. This is a good-sized expanse of west facing beach that runs northwards from a little way north of the Forte de São João. The golden sand here is punctuated by a number of rocky outcrops beyond the shoreline, but it is still a popular spot with surfers.
This coast might seem like a great beach but it is many beaches, next to each other. This beach is accessible and has lifeguard, plus several bars on the beach itself. There are straw umbrellas and blue tents (barracks) to rent.
