Aug 9, 2020 · While a good portion of Game of Thrones was filmed on-location throughout the world, a lot of the series was filmed at the Paint Hall Studios in Belfast, Ireland. The studio served as the headquarters for on-set production, housing interior settings such as the Iron Throne room, Winterfell, Castle Black, the Great Sept of Baelor, and the Red Keep.

- Castle Ward in County Down, Northern Ireland. In Season 1, Winterfell Castle was depicted at Castle Ward in County Down, overlooking the Strangford Lough inlet.
- Ballintoy Harbour, Northern Ireland. Ballintoy Harbour was shown as the Iron Islands in Game of Thrones, where Theon Greyjoy celebrates his homecoming, meets Yara (his sister), and marvels at his newly built longship, the Sea Bitch, built by Sigrin.
