  7. Short Artist Biography. - Tinus De Jongh was forbidden to study art by his parents; took a post with a firm of decorators in Amsterdam but left after two years to concentrate on painting; painted street scenes, interiors and landscapes in Amsterdam tradition.

  8. Some of his best landscape work was done in this short period of scenes in and around the Cedarberg area. He died in Bloemfontein on 17 July 1942 at the age of 57 years from lung cancer, having become one of the most technically skilled and popular painters in South Africa.
