Sep 3, 2010 · This headstone is the only one which exists in Goodrington Park and is in the memory of Major Thomas Hill. This was the site of a naval hospital which was built in 1800. Erosion of the associated cemetery was later arrested by sea defences built by the Admiralty.
On an area of grass in Goodrington’s Young’s Park the final resting place of Major Thomas Hill is marked by the park’s solitary gravestone. But who was he and why was he buried here?
