Jul 3, 2024 · The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing $3 million into a stretch of M-55 that runs from the city limits of Cadillac in Wexford County to M-66 in Missaukee County.
M-55 is an east–west route that runs in the south of the county. The highway passes to the south and east of Cadillac, concurrent at points with US 131 and M-115. West of Wexford County, the highway can be used to access Manistee. East of Wexford County, the highway can be used to access Lake City and Houghton Lake.
On the western bank of Lake Cadillac, where M-55 intersects M-115, is what is locally referred to as Cadillac West. This is a small commercial district, bordering Mitchell State Park and the two lakes; it caters mostly to tourists.
