Colonia Villa de Guadalupe (also known as La Villa de Guadalupe Hidalgo) is a former separate town, now a neighborhood in northern Mexico City which, in 1531, was the site of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the most renowned Marian apparition in the Americas.
La Villa de Guadalupe is in the northern part of Mexico City, part of the delegación (borough) of Gustavo A. Madero. It is home to the Basílica de Guadalupe complex (known often simply as "La Villa"), and the Tepeyac National Park, which includes Tepeyac Hill.
It is a church built in 1649 by Luis Lasso de la Vega. According to tradition, it housed the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe from 1695 to 1709 —the year in which it was transferred to the church known as the Old Basilica— and the standard of Miguel Hidalgo from 1853 to 1896.
