The name 'Hawksworth' seems to contain an Old English personal name, Hoc, with the suffix weorð, an enclosure, so "Hoc's enclosure". Later the first element was altered through the influence of the Old Norse haukr , a hawk. Hawksworth appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Hochesuorde and Huchesworde.
