  5. Crow Peak. There seems to be little disagreement among hikers that Crow Peak is one of the best hikes in the Black Hills. According to Lists of John, Crow Peak is #6 in Black Hills for prominence, at 920 feet. The actual elevation gain from the trailhead to the summit is approximately 1,600 feet over the 3 ½ mile length of the trail.

Three and a half miles up, three and a half miles down. Approximately a 1500 foot elevation change and give yourself about four hours on foot. The end result? You are on top of the world, or the Black Hills at least.

  7. The trail switchbacks up a steep talus slope, revealing Crow Peak as an igneous intrusion as are other area landmarks such as Spearfish Mountain, Bear Butte, and Terry Peak. Views from the top of Crow Peak offer a wonderful vista of the northern Black Hills, Bearlodge Mountains, the towns of Spearfish and Belle Fourche, and the hogback and plains extending to the north.
