Brigstock is set in what was the huge Rockingham Forest that stretched from Northampton to Stamford in Lincolnshire and was flanked by the Rivers Nene and Welland. Only a small fraction of the forest remains. The village dates from Saxon times and the oldest parts of the church date back to that era. It was part of the Kingdom of Mercia.
