It is known for its rich history and cultural attractions, as well as its abundance of natural hot springs. Beitou was once a small village known for its sulfur mines, but in the early 20th century it became a popular tourist destination due to the development of hot spring resorts.

- Hot Springs. On leaving MRT Xinbeitou Station (see Getting there below), you will immediately see the entrance to Beitou Hot Spring Park across the main road, to the right.
- Public Library. Also located inside Beitou Hot Spring Park, between the museum and the public pools, is an interesting building that resembles a giant ark.
- Thermal Valley. At the far, upper end of the hot-spring park, look left and you’ll spot the entrance to Thermal Valley, the source of the park area’s sulfurous hot-spring water.
- Beitou Museum. Further uphill from the hot-spring park and the thermal-spring valley, on Youya Road, is the Beitou Museum, an excellent place to learn more about Beitou’s history, indigenous culture, and the Japanese colonial era – the museum building was original constructed in 1921 as a fancy hot-spring hotel for the Japanese elite – and also to taste fine cuisine (Kaiseki-style) and take in irregular cultural performances (in a spacious tatami room).
- Xinbeitou Historic Station. The first stop of your Beitou itinerary brings you to the same place many thousands of other visitors first arrived at many years ago.
- Fuxing Hot Foot Spa. There are a total of three free foot-soaking hot springs in Beitou. They’re found in Quanyuan Park, Sulfer Valley and Fuxing Park, the latter of which is your next stop!
- Ketagalan Culture Center. Taiwan is home to a number of indigenous tribes that have inhabited the island for many centuries before the arrival of the Chinese.
- Beitou Hot Spring Museum. If Beitou is known for one thing, its hot springs. Thus, the Hot Spring Museumhas become a symbol of Beitou’s nationally renowned culture.

In the pre-modern era, the original inhabitants of the area, the Ketagalan Tribe referred to the Beitou Hot Springs as the “ Residence of the Witch ” due to the mist that envelopes the area.

May 18, 2023 · Beitou is part of the Beitou District (北投區), the northernmost district of Taipei City in Taiwan. The easiest way to get to Beitou is by taking the Taipei Metro ( MRT ). Even though there is a Beitou MRT Station on the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (red line ), don’t get off there.
