The tragedy is that the bears had to hide themselves from the world to stay safe. But they never felt safe. In the end the Guardians left their children behind to pursue evil but were chasing a Shadow for years. So they wasted their life on trying to protect their young by killing the enemy.
There is a ton of evidence for SilSol being Dark Heart, including the panel directly after he splits showing the newly-created Skeksis & urRu formed from him. All the Skeksis (IMO) are really badly drawn in Creation Myths, but in this one panel, Chamberlain’s distinctive head/beak/face shape are unmistakable.
My retroactive theory is that after the first collapse got thwarted but before Nezerac got dismembered he set up the Black Heart as a means to keep the Traveler from healing properly. Nezerac’s ship is parked on the moon, and he was a Darkness Disciple, and there’s a Vex Gate to the Black Garden on the moon.
