This was the 'Denton & Haughton Band' which had formed in 1818 and until then had been the only local band we had; though, of course, Denton and Haughton were two separate townships at the time.

Haughton is a township forming the eastern portion of Denton, Tameside in Greater Manchester. The township probably dates from the Anglo-Saxon times, and was first recorded as Halcton or Halghton in the thirteenth century.
