Where Are the Children? is a 1986 American mystery thriller film directed by Bruce Malmuth, starring Jill Clayburgh, Max Gail, Harley Cross, Elizabeth Wilson, and Barnard Hughes. It is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by Mary Higgins Clark .
In Cape Cod, Missy and Michael, the two children of Nancy Eldridge, are kidnapped by a man who has disturbing intentions for them. Local police chief Ed Coffin wrongfully suspects that Nancy is behind the disappearances. On her birthday, San Francisco resident Nancy Harmon's two kids Peter and Lisa disappear, later to be found dead.

Dan Gorman ★½. This drab Mary Higgins Clark (A Stranger is Watching, A Cry in the Night) adaptation has promise but succumbs to nothing-special direction and a lack of tension. More often than not, the movie's over-cranked melodrama skirts into camp territory and as such undercuts any suspense that could have been brewed up.
