  1. Mar 26, 2020 · It was the latest wooden roller coaster to be built in the UK. That was until Wicker Man was built. Megafobia held the title for the best wooden roller coaster in the country up until 2018 when Wicker Man was built. The ride has an 85-foot tall lift hill which is fun to climb. I can’t stress enough just how good that first drop really is!

    • WICKER MAN AT ALTON TOWERS. The UK’s first new wooden roller coaster in 21 years. Alton Towers had invested £16 million into the creation of Wicker Man, which had been in development for the last 4 years.
    • NEMESIS AT ALTON TOWERS. One of the world's best inverted roller coasters, Nemesis pushes the senses to the limit. Riders can expect to experience awesome G-Forces as they plummet through the rocky craters surrounding a legendary monster.

    • Wicker Man – Alton Towers. Opening in 2018, Wicker Man was a long-awaited new wooden roller coaster for the UK (the first for over 20 years). Wooden coasters with their dense structures often rely on the ride experience alone – and so this ride from Great Coasters International really ups the ante with its immersive theming and storyline, including the huge, flaming Wicker Man centre stage.
    • Icon – Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It’s amazing how the teams at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Mack Rides managed to create a coaster like Icon and fit it in around all the existing classic rides.
    • Scenic Railway – Dreamland Margate. An absolute classic – and the oldest roller coaster in the UK, originally opening in 1920. There are so many things to love about this ride, but perhaps the most noticeable (and unique) is the on-ride brakeman, who controls the speed of the train.
    • The Swarm – Thorpe Park. An apocalyptic battle may not be the most cheery theming for a roller coaster – but luckily this B&M coaster is so much fun, there are plenty of smiles to be seen wandering around the park beneath it.
