History. The first Tokyo Marathon was held on 18 February 2007. However, years prior to 2007, Tokyo Marathon consisted of two marathons: the Tokyo International Marathon which took place on even years, and Tokyo-New York Friendship International Marathon which took place on odd years.

RACE HISTORY. Organized by the Tokyo Marathon Foundation, the inaugural Tokyo Marathon was held on February 18, 2007. Through its theme, “The Day We Unite” the Tokyo Marathon has gathered together runners, volunteers and spectators every year.
The Tokyo Marathon is Tokyo's large scale city marathon held on the first Sunday of March. The race starts at the Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku and ends at the Imperial Palace not far from Tokyo Station.
