Happily married middle-aged couple Tom (Jim Broadbent) and Gerri (Ruth Sheen) attempt to set up their recently-divorced friend Mary (Lesley Manville) with another friend, Ken (Peter Wight). Cracks in the plan become apparent when Mary shows more interest in the couple's adult son, Joe (Oliver Maltman), who is considerably younger than she is.
