Another World, known as Out of this World in the United States and Outer World in Japan was released in 1991. It was developed by Eric Chahi and is regarded as a cult classic.
The game used a style of animation similar to that seen in the original Prince of Persia, but its unique setting and sound design by Jean-Francois Freitas set it apart from anything on the market at the time.
You play the game as Lester Chaykin a nuclear scientist who falls victim to an experiment gone wrong at the very beginning of the game. Once you enter the world you're able to run jump and kick, but you will remain weaponless for the beginning portion. When you do acquire a weapon from a guard it is a unique laser guy that can create barriers, powerful blasts that can break through weak walls, grenade type weapons, and of course be used like a laser gun.
