In 1955, a $900,000 modern addition was constructed beside the old school, followed by another $380,000 addition in 1962. The new and old contrasted starkly. To offset the overcrowding further, Ruddiman was converted into a Junior High, taking the 7th and 8th graders from Herman in 1959.

Apr 28, 2023 · The City of Detroit continued “Detroit Demo Week” with the demolition of the long-vacant Ruddiman Middle School in District 7 at 7350 Southfield Road. Yesterday, crews from Detroit-based Adamo Group began taking down the approximately 88,000 square foot school building.
