Sep 2, 2022 · The Village of Granville was founded in 1805 by New England settlers from Granville, Massachusetts and Granby, Connecticut, who sought more fertile farmland. (A historical marker located in Newark in Licking County, Ohio.)
Pioneer settlers. Granville was not settled by European Americans until 1805, but the first house was built in 1801 by Mr John Jones, a Welshman born in New Jersey. He erected a small hut with his wife and paved the first street in Granville, calling it Centerville Street.
