Englabörn is the first full length studio album by Icelandic musician Jóhann Jóhannsson, released by Touch Music in 2002. Music included on Englabörn was composed for a play by Hávar Sigurjónsson and was played by string quartet, percussionists and Jóhansson himself on several instruments.
Englabörn is Jóhann’s first solo album. It is derived from music he wrote for an Icelandic play of the same name. For the CD release on Touch, the music was revised and restructured to make it stand as a work on its own and not simply function as a collection of cues.

First released in 2002, the album started off as the soundtrack to an Icelandic play, but quickly gained a life of its own, thanks to its emotional power and finely tuned, spare scoring.
First released in 2002 on CD, later reissued on CD and vinyl. Remastered in 2017 by Jóhann Jóhannsson and re-issued in 2018 with additional variations and remixes on double CD and double vinyl, as well as download.

Mar 26, 2018 · Listening to Englabörn is different now. The initial release was completed in what Jóhannsson called “the apocalyptic autumn of 2001,” and bore witness to a time of international tumult. Now the aching sadness has risen to the surface.
