Initially, ballet shoes were all about fashion, with the first recorded ballet shoes debuting in 1680 at the Royal Academy of Dance in France. Those shoes had heels, which may have looked nice but didn't help with performance. Fast forward to 1947, and you'll find Rose Repetto, a visionary designer, crafting ballet flats that changed the game.
