Led by their primary songwriter John Sebastian, the Lovin' Spoonful took their earliest influences from jug band and blues music, reworking them into a popular music format. In 1965, the band helped pioneer the development of the musical genre of folk rock.
The Lovin' Spoonful is an American folk-rock band which was originally active between 1964 and 1968. [1] During their original tenure, they released five studio albums, two soundtrack albums, four compilation albums, and fourteen singles in the United States.
Ian Hunter wrote the song after touring America in the late '70s and finding that Cleveland was by far the most receptive city to his brand of Glam Rock. Michael Stipe hadn't finished the lyrics when R.E.M. recorded "Radio Free Europe." He calls the vocal "complete babbling."
