In the early to mid 1980s, some ambulance service training departments started offering advanced skill training. In 1986, the NHS Training Authority introduced the certificate in Extended Ambulance Aid. Existing AEMT Paramedics were forced to sit a conversion examination.
Apr 2, 2020 · In the UK, paramedics emerged from ambulance staff in the mid-1970s (Baskett et al, 1976; Briggs et al, 1976). They were trained to provide advanced resuscitation using invasive techniques that were almost exclusively the province of medical practitioners at that time.
We identified four historical periods in English paramedic education: development of paramedic education (1966–1996); paramedic role changes influencing education (1997–2004); paramedic education level changes and the emergency care practitioner (2005–2008); and paramedic education for the future (2010–2014).
