In 1983, the first part-time MBA programme was held under the direction of Sir Andrew Likierman, a former Dean of the School. In 1986, the school officially became the London Business School and was incorporated by Royal Charter, which gave LBS the right to confer and grant degrees.

The School, founded in 1964, will mark six decades of excellence in business education with celebrations throughout the 2024-25 academic year. Originally known as the London Graduate School of Business, LBS’s inaugural student intake comprised just 36 students pursuing an MSc qualification.

Founded in 1964, it has striven, in its own words, “ to have a profound impact on the way the world does business. A constituent college of the federal University of London, the LBS welcomes over 2,200 degree students from 109 countries each year.
The Beginning. In 1966, two years after London Business School opened its doors, the school launched a two-year Master of Science (MSc) in Business Studies. The first class consisted of 35 men and just one woman, with the average age around 25 years old. The goal of the two-year degree was to prepare students for employment.
