Oct 17, 2023 · How to Find Oklahoma Death Records. Most of the counties in Oklahoma did not start recording deaths until after statehood in 1907. The few earlier records are included in records of the Chickasaw Nation, Creek Nation, and Cherokee Outlet.

Mar 4, 2016 · Statewide recording of births and deaths began in October 1908, although compliance was incomplete for several years in most counties and for as much as two decades or longer in others. Registration was mandated in 1917, but it was another decade before 90 percent compliance was attained.

Most birth records were not filed timely until 1950 after Social Security Act was implemented and WWII was underway. It was at that time that people began to need proof of legal name, age, citizenship, age and parentage to access government benefits. Deaths The earliest death record on file is 1908.
