    WJBK-TV started its transmissions on October 24, 1948 as the third TV station in Detroit, and the fortieth in the United States; it was an affiliation from CBS until 1994.

    1988–1994 1994–1995

    In 1994, station owner New World Communications announced a group deal with Fox that saw all of their stations switch to the fledgling network, and the station took over Fox from former affiliate WKBD-TV (channel 50). CBS initially targeted ABC affiliate WXYZ-TV (channel 7), but its owner The E.W. Scripps Company signed an agreement with ABC that renewed its affiliation contract with WXYZ-TV. CBS would later purchase lower-rated WGPR-TV (UHF channel 62) in September 1994. The station kept its 1988 logo, but it was now set at a low 3D angle.
