County would be proud Football League members for more than a century. Joining the League meant the club soon outgrew their ground behind the Nursery Inn on Green Lane in Heaton Norris and, in 1902, they moved south of the River Mersey to Edgeley Park, then home of Stockport RLFC.
Stockport were relegated to the Conference National after finishing bottom of the League Two in the 2010–11 season, ending 106 years of Football League membership. After 11 seasons in non-League football , Stockport were champions of the 2021–22 National League and were promoted into EFL League Two .
Stockport first joined the Football League in 1900 but had to seek re-election in 1904. The club were not re-elected and spent one season outside the competition before they returned for the 1905–06 season. County then played in the Football League continuously for 106 years until 2011, mostly in the lower divisions.

Stockport spent one year in the Lancashire Combination before being re-admitted to the League in 1905. They continued to struggle and in 1921 County were relegated to the new northern section of the Third Division although they returned a year later, winning the championship by six points.
