Our story. Oundle traces its history back to 1556, when Sir William Laxton, Lord Mayor of London and Master of the Worshipful Company of Grocers endowed a ‘Free Grammar School’ in Oundle, where he had been educated at the original Gild School founded in 1506.

I talked to Mrs Langsdale, in her set-up within the Cobthorne Stables, to get a better understanding of what the School Archives really are and how they can influence our lives as members of the Oundle community.
The school was Laxton Grammar School until 1876, when Oundle School was established separately. Visionary head FW Sanderson brought excellence in engineering in the early twentieth century, and the school has been coeducational since the early 1990s under the similarly revered David McMurray.
