The members of Muse played in separate school bands during their time at Teignmouth Community College in the early 1990s. Guitarist Matt Bellamy successfully auditioned for drummer Dominic Howard 's band, Carnage Mayhem, becoming its singer and songwriter. They renamed the band Gothic Plague.
The entire field was used by Muse for a set of two concerts on the 4th and 5th of September 2009, which opened The Resistance tour, nicknamed A Seaside Rendezvous. The gigs marked Muse's return to the hometown and the first gig to be played in Teignmouth since 1995.
As 2007 approached, it was announced that Muse would be the first band to play in the newly-rebuilt Wembley Stadium, on June 16. Following the announcement, the first night was sold out in 45 minutes, prompting the organizers to add a second show on June 17.

Teignmouth is a town on the north bank of the estuary mouth of the River Teign in south Devon, England. The town grew from a fishing port to a fashionable resort of some note in Georgian times with further expansion after the opening of the South Devon Railway on 30 May 1846.
