Dante Aligheiri was born in 1265 to a family of lesser nobility in Florence. He began writing poems while young, and, when he was nine, he met Beatrice, a girl to whom he later dedicated most of his poetry. Dante’s mother died before he was 14, and his father passed away prior to 1283.

The exact date of his marriage is not known; the only certain information is that, before his exile in 1301, he had fathered three children with Gemma (Pietro, Jacopo and Antonia). [23] Dante fought with the Guelph cavalry at the Battle of Campaldino (June 11, 1289). [30]
Dante’s mother, Bella, was probably from the Abati family. She died when Dante was around nine or ten years old. He was his parents’ only child. Later, his father married Lapa di Chiarissimo Cialuffi and from this union, he had one half-brother, Francesco, and one half-sister, Gaetana (Tana).
