On the day of Twilight's coronation, Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow successfully unlock the power of Grogar's Bewitching Bell, allowing them to use it to make themselves all-powerful. They then betray Grogar and drain him of his magic, revealing him to be Discord in disguise.

Encouraged by her friends, Twilight regains her confidence and they return to Canterlot to confront the villains. The Young Six manage to convince the pony races (as well as their own kingdoms) to end their re-formed strife towards each other in order to help Twilight and her friends save the day.
In my opinion the finale should have taken place just after Twilight's coronation and explained how the main 6 kept in touch, and to pull on the heartstrings. Twilight sends one last letter to Princess Celestia that reads some selected lyrics of the official full theme song like this; Dear Princess Celestia,
But I'd say it was a HUGE improvement over the previous two episodes. It wasn't perfect but it was sweet, fun, happy and waterfalls of tears! Seriously, "The Magic of Friendship Grows" is quite possibly my favorite song in the whole series. It's a 7/10 for me. Goodbye, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic...
The final shot of the Mane Six and Spike is watching Luster Dawn go off with her new friends she made in Ponyville against a setting sky, symbolizing the closing of their adventures, their "sunset" if you will.
It premiered as the final episode of the series, as part of the 90-minute finale with The Ending of the End - Part 1 and The Ending of the End - Part 2. In this epilogue episode, an older and wiser Princess Twilight Sparkle is visited by a student with a friendship problem.

The most I really can say is that the journal closing / shift to a new generation is a very solid ending, and especially the book closing is about as perfect a final moment to the show as we ever could have asked for. Unfortunately, basically everything supporting that moment runs hollow for me:
