Mar 31, 2023 · Winter is pretty quiet in Taos but there is still plenty to do, especially if you enjoy hiking. One of our favorite hikes was in Carson National Forest along the El Nogal trail. There are several paths to choose from and we took the trail that followed along the stream.
There are plenty of snowshoeing trails to explore over a Taos winter, but a great introduction is La Jara Canyon (a.k.a. Forest Road #5) in Carson National Forest, on the way to Angel Fire. It’s a gentle 2-mile path along a stream to a beautiful meadow.

Dec 29, 2019 · Taos is absolutely stunning in the winter. It's cold but not biting, bustling but not crowded, and most of the area's best activities are accessible year-round. For a relaxing, low-key winter weekend getaway, I recommend visiting in mid-December.
