   Apr 12, 2010 · I rebuilt my pony engine 8 years ago. I have been using Autolite 458 spark plugs gapped to .025 with great success. I am not implying that these are the only ones that will work, but it is a spark plug that crosses to a Champion J-8 which is what JD specs in the service & parts books.

   Sep 26, 2016 · Since my timing light is 12 volts, I can't use it on the pony plugs. I know you can probably pull off a wire and see if the engine changes rpms, but on a pony this is not that easy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

   May 20, 2012 · daves--i have read that the Auto 386 and the NGK A6 are good plugs for the pony. For myself though I am told I have the newer heads with the plug in the middle of the head and they are a smaller plug dia. My research shows the D-16 is an 18MM plug with a 1/2 inch reach.
