Aug 21, 2024 · If you’re a beginner looking to build your guitar repertoire, a steady and straightforward strumming pattern matters just as much as easy chord shapes. Even songs made up of just three or four chords can be quite challenging if the rhythm is complex. But what we have here is a list packed with easy strumming songs that are fun to play on guitar.
- The 4-Beat Downstrokes. Difficulty Level: Easy. This is a really simple strumming part that is great for beginners. Since it’s so easy, it’s perfect for building your sense of timing and gaining confidence to move onto more complex strumming styles later.
- Add Two Upstrokes. Difficulty Level: Intermediate. Once you get the hang of the 4-beat downstroke, let’s add some upstrokes to the mix, shall we? This one is slightly trickier to play compared to the first strumming style.
- Add Three Upstrokes. Difficulty Level: Intermediate. Once you’ve mastered adding two upstrokes into your pattern, let’s add another up to make it a total of three upstrokes into this strumming style!
- Downstroke On Downbeat, Upstroke On Upbeat. Difficulty Level: Easy. By now, you may have figured out that we are playing all the downstrokes on what we can call the ‘downbeat’ – on the 1,2,3, and 4.
There are several strumming patterns that will allow you to play almost any song. By mastering these, you will have a much easier time learning any new pattern, and you will be able to combine them easier.
- Wonderwall by Oasis. Wonderwall is without a doubt one of Oasis’s most successful and popular compositions. I’m sure a lot of you have heard it, however, it deserves my top spot because of its awesome strumming pattern.
- Redemption Song By Bob Marley. This one is the most popular single by ‘Bob Marley and the Wailers’ from their twelfth album ‘Uprising’. This song differs significantly from his usual reggae-influenced songs.
- Complicated by Avril Lavigne. Co-written by Avril and The Matrix, this is her debut single from her debut album ‘Let Go’. It is one of the most successful releases by Avril that sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
- Let Her Go by Passenger. Let Her Go is another amazing song with a cool strumming pattern. This song was originally written by Mike Rosenberg aka Passenger for his fourth album ‘All the Little Lights’.
