    • "Cute Without the 'E' (Cut From the Team)" by Taking Back Sunday. Most of your friends, or maybe you yourself, probably had a major crush on frontman, Adam Lazzara, back in the day.
    • "Ohio Is for Lovers" by Hawthorne Heights. Who doesn't recall screaming "I can't make it on my own!" at the top of their lungs when this song came out?
    • "Dark Blue" by Jack's Mannequin. Jack's Mannequin was originally a solo project for lead singer and writer Andrew McMahon, who fronted the band Something Corporate until going on hiatus in 2004.
    • "Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional. Whether it was the acoustic version or the regular song, "Hands Down" was a staple in budding romances. Because there's nothing as exhilarating as that first kiss you shared when the streets were wet, the gate was locked, and you stood at the door with your hands on his or her waist.

MCR were and are the kings of ’00s emo. I will not listen to any other opinions. Now that I’m an adult I’ve never related to their song ‘Teenagers’ so hard.

Before Jared Leto got super weird and started a cult, 30 Seconds To Mars did an emo pivot on their second album and it was good shit.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released this song about a toxic abusive relationship in 2006 and the message still resonates to this day.

If you didn’t angrily blast the chorus of this song while thinking of someone who made your life a living hell in high school, were you even a true emo?

The Used are one of the emo GOATS. Still releasing music to this day, ‘I Caught Fire’ was one of those tracks that proved they could do emo really well, but they could do pop punk just as good.

While a lot of emo nostalgia lists focus on your MCR’s and FOB’s, let’s pour one out for Welsh band Funeral For A Friend. Emo by name, emo by nature.

This was some cheesy, easy listening emo/pop punk at its finest. Catchy AF, but leaves your head as instantly as it arrives.

There weren’t many female-fronted bands that broke through the ’00s emo wave, but Paramore and fearless lead singer Hayley Williams made sure they broke through with a vengeance. While Williams has now retired this song from playing it live due to not supporting its overall message anymore, we can’t pretend like we didn’t dance around our bedrooms ...

The chorus of this song is about as emo as it gets. No wonder our parents worried about us if this was always blaring out of our rooms.

To this day, this is still a fucking banger. Evanescence were a band that completely broke the mold. Also let’s not forget how great follow-up single ‘Going Under’ is.

    • I’m Not Okay (I Promise)’ – My Chemical Romance. Maybe an obvious shout, but there is nothing that encapsulates mid-00s emo more than this song, Gerard Way’s ‘Revenge’-era make-up, and the vaguely Heathers inspired music video.
    • Lover I Don’t Have to Love’ – Bright Eyes. All of Conor Oberst’s back catalogue is created purely to cry to, but ‘Lover I Don’t Have to Love’ wins for its breathy, overwrought storytelling and an iconic feature on The O.C.
    • A Little Less Sixteen Candles – A Little More “Touch Me”‘, Fall Out Boy. It’s hard choosing a top 10 Fall Out Boy track, but ‘Sixteen Candles’ has all the tongue-in-cheek bitterness and an ambitious vampire-themed music video while going very hard.
    • Emily’ – From First to Last. Unusually mellow for From First to Last, ‘Emily’ is a melodramatic, acoustic rumination on love and one that 90% of emo boys sent to girls who were not called Emily in the mid-00s.
    • "The Curse of Curves" — Cute Is What We Aim For.
    • "Misery Business" — Paramore.
    • "Cute Without the E" — Taking Back Sunday.
    • "Hands Down" — Dashboard Confessional.
