- The Ninja Gaiden Series. Platform: Various (they’ve been around for 34 years) There can’t be a list about ninjas without the series that put the word in the mouths of so many gamers over the years.
- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Platform: PlayStation 3, Xbox One and PC. It would be fair to say that upon his reveal, the reception to Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 was… less than positive.
- The Messenger. Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Whilst the 2D ninja platformer has been around for a while, and been done in 3D to varying degrees of success, there’s always room for something nostalgic to cheer us up.

- Katana Zero. Platforms: Microsoft Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. It is debatable, but this is the better of the two 2D ninja platform games, the hack-and-slash game Katana Zero.
- Mark of the Ninja Remastered. Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Linux, OS X, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. There isn’t much that separates the top three in this list of PC ninja games, but someone had to make the tough call at the end – which is always me.
- The Lego NINJAGO Movie Video Game. Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Lego games are always great fun and have been massively loved – they’ve also covered most things you could ever think of too.
- Ninja Spirit (Arcade/Turbo-Grafx 16) What Ninja Spirit lacks in complexity and speed compared to some of its peers, it makes up for in sheer chaos. At any given moment, ten keen-to-kill ninja enemies, all tossing multiple shurikens, can be onscreen at once, and in the Arcade, one hit from ANY of them means your death.
- Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (Sega Master System) With his cool mutton chops and wild world full of painfully specific Japanese folklore, Alex Kidd is one of those mascots that time forgot.
- Fruit Ninja (Mobile) One of the touchstones (pun unintended) of mobile gaming, Fruit Ninja was the first example of a game that just couldn't have happened anywhere except mobile, and with a gimmick that almost a decade later captures a certain primal pleasure that even some of the games higher up on this list don't necessarily get right.
